The Filling Pen...
A fountain pen is a writing tool that prints with ink that can be inserted in a chamber in the pen. Hence the word filling pen. Today fyllepennens space writing instrument in the process of being taken over by modern ballpoint pens, and especially once school pens made fountain pen less ordinary.
The first filling pens were produced by LE Waterman in the USA in 1884. Filling the pen made it possible to write in a long time without carrying with them blekkhus as regular pens had to be immersed in, and was designed so that it could be hooked into a pocket on a shirt or jacket.The way to fill up the ink container varied according to the manufacturer and patent.
Some had a rubber bladder that could be squeezed together, so to soak up the ink. Others used a stamp that was turned up and down, while others had turned away from each other so that one could drip ink or ink in a container.The development of disposable cartridges ended the inevitable mess that comes with filling.
